Be Uniquely You

Be uniquely you!

Have you ever been in a place where you feel like you can’t find your niche?  You know what you are called to do in life, but instead of embracing the gifts that God has given YOU, you turn to people for direction?  I’ve been there.

When I first started my business, I got so caught up in making sure that I did everything “right” in the photography world, that I quickly lost my joy because it became a comparison game.  Was I as good as this photographer or did I do things like that photographer; because they rock!  Well, the Lord quickly got ahold of me and made me see that He had called me to this profession for a reason.  He didn’t call me to be like someone else, or to strive to meet someone else’s standard of excellence.

He called me to be all that he made ME to be.  There is no other ME out there.  And there is a reason for that.

Romans 12:3-8 says: “For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you. For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.”

The point?  Be uniquely you!  You were placed on this Earth as a unique individual with specific gifts and abilities.  You were not created to duplicate another person, their work, their character, their personality, or their gifts.  Because those things are their work, their character, their personality, and their gifts.  It does, however mean, that you should strive to work diligently with the gifts that God has given YOU.  The only person you should compare yourself to, is yourself yesterday.  Are you striving to work with excellence?  Are you letting YOUR personality and YOUR gifts and YOUR character show through in YOUR work?  If you are, then that is when people will see YOU in your work.  More importantly, they will see Christ in your work, because He is who gave you the gifts that you are striving to strengthen!

So be encouraged.  If you’re in a rut, if you feel like you’re trying to find your place, if you feel like you’re trying to find your niche, hang in there.  Reflect on who God has made you as an individual and use those gifts and abilities to shine.  And be uniquely you!
