John and Haley’s Southern House and Garden Wedding

March 15, 2018

John and Haleys Southern House and Garden wedding was exciting, memorable, and down right fun! I’ve know John since he and I were both kids. When he called me to ask if I’d capture his and Haley’s wedding, I was so excited! I met Haley and it was so apparent that they had an amazing connection. We did their engagement session in Tuscaloosa last Fall at Lake Nichol park. It was Fall and the leaves where changing. John brought his precious daughter, Turner, so they could be sure to get some family photos as well. They all three share an awesome sense of humor that brings them together so nicely. You can check that out here.

The week of John and Haley’s wedding, we were all watching the weather. We live in Alabama so we never know what we are going to get. It could forecast rain and be sunny, or vice versa. The night before their wedding, it was still a strong chance of rain and thunderstorms. I enjoy a nice change so I texted John and Haley the night before and told them to find some cute rain boots, and that we would rock rainy wedding and it would be amazing. So John went to the store and bought some cute rain boots, and oh how thankful we were for them.

On John and Haley’s wedding day, I got to start the day with Haley at Glamour Salon in Tuscaloosa, where the lovely Whitney Strickland did Haley and here girl’s hair and makeup. They each sat with matching robes and snacked while chatting and getting ready for the day. We proceeded to Southern House and Garden, in Knoxville, AL, where everyone was a little anxious about the weather coming in.

John had a first look with his daughter, Turner, to start. John has such a big heart so it was a very emotional moment between he and Turner! Then as Haley walked to him, he gleamed from ear to ear. It was such an honor to watch them share their love for each other. We proceeded with portraits and soon after, the rain began. It didn’t just rain, it poured. In fact, it rained so hard, so fast, that guests were taking their shoes off to come inside because had they not, their feet would have been entirely submerged in water. The owners and staff at Southern House and Garden are so amazing at what they do. They had umbrellas galore, tents, and golf carts to get guests inside. When it was time for Haley to come from the house where she was waiting, to the chapel for the ceremony, they made sure she didn’t get wet. So, after she put on her brand new rain boots, the ladies at SH&G wrapped Haley up in towels and plastic (I know it sounds crazy but it worked) and got her to the chapel. They covered her on every side with umbrellas because the rain was blowing in every direction! As she entered the chapel, standing in front of John and all their guests, Chelsea, one of the amazing ladies at SH&G knelt down, took off Haley’s boots, and put her high heels on her. They unwrapped her, let out her train and fixed her dress, and she walked down the aisle. The ceremony was so beautiful. Their close friends and family surrounded them as they became husband and wife, finishing the day with a lovely reception filled with laughter and joy! I’ve always heard that rain on a wedding day is good luck! Maybe it is. It sure did help us get some beautiful images and create some unforgettable memories that will be looked back upon for years to come!
